Though the filly wasn’t one that was overly well known, her lines were screaming for recognition. The daughter of True Enough was about to make her first start since the start of the year, only this time, she would be doing it with a new home, a new jockey, and most of all, hoping to follow in the footsteps of her father. This time, she would be trying to do it over fences for the first time. Knowing that the horses ahead of her were strong, athletic, and had more experience, Ivana would be trying her best to get the filly to race fitness before stepping out onto the track to do so again. Her last race was March Week Two, where she gainly beat Mizadori who has now shot to fame with her tremendous winning streak.
Beth Harvey would be riding Catching Fire in the same race today so that Ivana could focus on Lilly. The aim with Lilly would be to get her to atleast Grade Three for the following year, so she could be recognised as an up and coming superstar broodmare who would pass down some amazing lines, and, not forgetting on her dams side, some amazing colouring. Ivana had been training the filly up since she’d arrived a few weeks ago. She looked flail and had no muscle, but since she’s been back in work, she gained all her muscle and she is now finally getting to grips and looking like a daughter of a hall of famer.
The steeplechases were a bit more relaxed than the full on Grade Five races at the moment, so she had taken the easier option for trying to get Lilly up the grades. There was just one horse stood in there way. GS Ultimate Challenge. The horse had been beaten a lot by Catching Fire and vice versa, but Ivana was determined that this filly, with more flat race experience could take charge.
The morning was a breezy one. The brisk wind was cold, and it was rather off putting but it wasn't stopping Ivana and Lilly on this particular day. She would be working alongside Beth and Catching Fire, who would also be running in the same race which was awkward. Two best friends competiting against eachother on equally good horses of a different grade, but this workout would mainly focus on and around Lilly.
The horses were walked onto the track and warmed up to get their blood boiling. Diesel would run alongside her over 5 large fences in a speedy but grueling workout. It would be something quick and easy, just something to get them working. Beth and Ivana were then sent on there way. Lilly shot for the lead with Diesel only half a length behind her. Both stride in stride as they took the decent into the backstretch. The first fence approached it and Lilly found the right stride before flying over it effortlessly, same with Diesel who landed around a length behind.
The second fence approached quickly and Lilly got a little close but lifted her legs over it and landed nicely, managing to recover. Diesel landed almost level with her after a perfect jump, but you know what they say, we learn from our mistakes. Over the third fence and both horses jumped it easily, level with eachother. Now the race hotted up as both horses powered round the home turn, neck and neck and almost inseparable.
The final two fences loomed and both horses powered side by side, jockeys both cracking whips. The second to last fence came up and the horses flew it. Diesel took off a little far away and landed slightly behind but he managed to recover quickly and easily, looming alongside Lilly again. Over the last and Lilly stuck her nose infront. Ivana was all out and so was she. The sweat dripped off both of them. They flew under the wire and won in a head bob over Diesel, but this wouldn't stop Diesel from losing in this race though. The fate was sure to come soon, but it wasn't known what the outcome of the race would be.
